Working Land refers to two facets of rural landscape: the idea of working the land as a vocation and as a description of productive ground. My family tree includes immigrant ancestors who made a living from working the soil and some of their descendants who carry on this work to the present day. That personal connection to working land inspired the project.

Lida Farm, August 21, 2014: The Pesches bought an old farmstead as their home and as a place to establish their organic vegetable farm. It came with this iconic, old-style dairy barn built many decades ago. The Pesches keep a few animals for milk and meat, which gives them the uncommon privilege of getting to know in person their food source. I think this could lead to some mixed emotions.
