Working Land refers to two facets of rural landscape: the idea of working the land as a vocation and as a description of productive ground. My family tree includes immigrant ancestors who made a living from working the soil and some of their descendants who carry on this work to the present day. That personal connection to working land inspired the project.

May 26, 2015: A farmer’s life is one of faith. You sow seeds in a field and trust they will grow. You work closely with the cycle of seasons, praying that there will be the right balance of sun and rain. You have some control. You can manipulate the ground and the seeds themselves to ensure they will be productive. And yet a summer hailstorm can destroy your hard work and faith in a moment.
