Working Land refers to two facets of rural landscape: the idea of working the land as a vocation and as a description of productive ground. My family tree includes immigrant ancestors who made a living from working the soil and some of their descendants who carry on this work to the present day. That personal connection to working land inspired the project.

Lida Farm, May 27, 2015: Kelsey is an apprentice farmer under Ryan, who himself learned farming as an apprentice. During the growing season, Kelsey lives in a cottage attached to one of the greenhouses, and looks forward to having her own farm someday. Many farmers I know grew up in the life, but Kelsey benefits from being mentored in a family setting without being born on a farm.
